Back in the land of the living - time for a dinner!

It has been a while since we have thrown a dinner party, so when Jane invited a couple of friends over for roast beef and Yorkshire puddings I thought I might play a little.

We cranked up the air conditioning, and got the house cool enough to be comfortable. The kids (three 2 year old girls - MacK was brilliant, alternately playing with and refereeing trampoline wars). I even managed to remember to photograph most of this menu! Really do need to outsource that pat of the evenings!

The menu we served was as follows:
  • Fresh breads with roast pumpkin and cashew dip
  • Quail egg and asparagus tarts with hollandaise
  • Cauliflower veloute with crisp prosciutto
  • Fish and chips (battered red snapper, grilled barramundi and gaufrette potato crisps with malt vinegar salt and aioli)
  •  Roast beef with Yorkshire pudding. Served with
    • Hasselback potatoes, roast parsnip and carrots, and braised Brussels sprouts
    • Caramelised shiraz and pepper sauce
    • Walnut and garlic paste
  •  "Cheese and Biscuits" (oatmeal biscuit with goats cheese mousse, caraway apple crisps, honey caviar and quince gel)
  •  Cherry, chocolate and mascarpone tart
  •  Tim Tam Bombe Alaska

The twins enjoyed the Bombe Alaska as much as Drew did...

 Good conversation, good whiskey....

The Bombe Alaska was especially for Drew - the man is a Tim Tam freak, and would eat them at the exclusion of anything else! The biscuits are layered with salt caramel and raspberry ice cream before being slathered in meringue, and torched with cognac. Highly recommended.....

We enjoyed the conversation and enjoyed adding to the numbers of those who have eaten at our table. I think it would be wonderful one day to be able to get everybody who has come to one of our dinner parties together. I would love to see the conversation at that party! Although I think we may have done the monarchy to death...
